Green benefits already being seen by Pramac
The first European round of the 2010 MotoGP World Championship was an all-round success for Pramac Racing, both on the track and in the paddock. Watch a video which details the Green Energy Team’s environmentally friendly approach to race weekends.
The Gran Premio bwin de España weekend was one of success for the Pramac Racing team, who secured seventh place in the MotoGP race with Mika Kallio as well as seeing the benefits of their Green Energy approach to their environmental responsibilities.
At Jerez the trucks that will be used by the team throughout the season were seen in their full splendour, each sporting 12 solar panels with an extra two on the pit canopy made by Pramac Solar Division. Each panel is capable of generating 2.8 kW of electric energy, saving an estimated 3.36 MW of energy. The largest figure will be the 2.3 tonnes of CO2 that will be saved through the use of the solar panels, thus preventing its emission into the atmosphere.
Of great interest to those present in the paddock were the two RevolutionAir wind turbines on the trucks that have been designed for Pramac by Philippe Starck. These generated enough electricity throughout the weekend to power almost independently the screens and equipment inside the box. The turbines are capable of generating 0.8 kW, saving 650kg of CO2 emissions.
With further help from the sun and wind the Pramac Racing team will be able to generate as much energy as possible, thus increasing the supply of their energy needs from these innovative methods.
"“We got to see that the facilities we have installed on our trucks are able to cover part of our energy needs in the pits,” explained a pleased Pramac boss Paolo Campinoti. “It's a good starting point for a season that will be characterised by many similar initiatives.”
Pramac rider Aleix Espargaró explains the wind turbines further in the attached motogp.com video.
