Daring Redding ride seals fantastic fourth
Moto2™ is powered byThe 17 year-old Marc VDS Racing rider mounted a superb comeback to take fourth in the Moto2 race at the AirAsia British Grand Prix, his home GP.
Scott Redding scored his best result of the season to date at Silverstone on Sunday as he rode to fourth in the AirAsia British Grand Prix, missing out on a podium by just over half a second in the Moto2 race in front of his home crowd.
Having qualified in 12th place on the grid Redding was pushed back to 17th as the fight for positions going into the first turn became frantic, but he applied himself marvellously to work his way back up the order.
"It was a tough start to the race, I got hit from the left, the right and the rear going into turn one, which pushed me well out wide,” explained Redding. “After that it was just a case of getting my head down, giving it full gas and just seeing how many places I could claw back.”
The Gloucestershire youngster admitted he rode on the limit a few times as he took some risks in order to make up places.
He continued: “I was taking a few chances, but I managed to fight my way back up to the battle for the lead with only a few scary moments on the way. Once I'd tagged onto the battle I just gave it everything I had, but I just couldn't get close enough to (podium finishers) Simón and Lüthi to try and put in a pass.”
Redding’s best finish in the new Moto2 class prior to Silverstone was 11th place at Le Mans in round three, and his result on home soil was a just reward for the Marc VDS Team’s efforts he said.
“I missed out on a podium finish today, but I'm happy with the result as it's what the team deserve after all their hard work this season. I hope the fans here at Silverstone enjoyed it because I certainly did!” he concluded.
