Redding locked onto impressive home result

Home soil has proven to be the most fruitful hunting ground for Scott Redding in the past two seasons, with the British rider having secured his best result of each campaign in his home GP.

A win in 2008 (making him the youngest ever GP winner – a record that still stands) and third place last year both came in the 125cc class and at Donington however, and a switch to the redeveloped Silverstone will provide an altogether new challenge this weekend. Redding also rides in the new Moto2 class this season, a category that he is still adapting to, and is looking forward to the added buzz that his home race will bring.

“Donington was new for me in 2008 and at Silverstone it will be the same for everyone, none of us have ridden here before,” said Redding, who has had successful treatment for a knee problem since the last round at Mugello. “We’ll have to see what we can do and hopefully achieve a good result like in the past two years at Donington in front of the home crowd.”

With a best result of 11th so far in Le Mans this season the prospect of a top-ten finish – and even higher – in front of that home support has Redding aiming high.

“I’m looking for a win every week but it’s been hard work this year and we’re trying ever so hard with the bike, and myself,” he explained. “To get a nice top-five finish, top ten even, would be great. To be up there for the fans would be fantastic.”

The target for the 17 year-old is a good qualifying practice, as he feels that the Saturday afternoon session is where the foundation for a strong result will be established.

“Qualifying is where it’s almost make or break,” he stated. “For the last few races I’ve been qualifying in the mid-20 positions and I can get up to 15th, but it is hard work from there. So if I can start the race from 15th that’s much better.”

“We’ll be trying really hard to get on the front two or three rows and go from there to make a good race,” he concluded.
