Schrötter completes Interwetten presence
The 17 year-old rookie will line up in the 125cc class this season, thus ensuring that the Interwetten team has a representative in each of the three World Championship classes.
125cc rider Marcel Schrötter will make his debut on the World Championship stage this season for the Interwetten Honda 125 Team, ensuring the team has a representative in each of the three categories in 2010.
With Hiroshi Aoyama (Interwetten Honda MotoGP) in the premier class and Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing) in Moto2, Schrötter will share the box with the former 125cc World Champion.
“To ride in the World Championship was a great dream of mine and it has come true. My goal for this season is to be in the top 10 constantly and at least to be always in the points,” said Schrötter, who impressed with three wildcard rides last season which included fifth place at Valencia. He was also German and European 125cc Champion last year, further highlighting his outstanding potential.
Team owner Daniel Epp said: “To have Marcel in our team structure rounds off our presence in the World Championship, because now we have one rider in each of the Grand Prix classes with Hiroshi, Tom and him. Marcel already showed his potential last year with some wildcard performances. I am very pleased that we can make this project happen with the help of Interwetten and Honda and their support in all three classes, and I am very excited to see the new team structure work.”
Sepp Schlögl and Stefan Haseneder, who worked with Lüthi in his title-winning year of 2005, will be the technical staff in Schrötter’s box, with Terrell Thien as Team Manager of both Schrötter and Lüthi.
Thien said: “We have two big talents in the team with Marcel and Tom. I have known Tom for many years and it is always fun to work with him. Also Marcel is a very calm and analytic rider, who follows his targets and is very ambitious. The fact he is with Sepp Schlögl is good for him. The feeling in our box, with the completely German speaking team is very good and I am looking forward to the season.”
Both Schrötter and Lüthi are currently participating in the official Moto2/125cc test at Valencia.
