A closer look at Silverstone developments

You can see a video of how the preparations for the 2010 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit are progressing.

Spectacular new facilities will greet spectators at round six of this year’s MotoGP World Championship, when the Silverstone circuit hosts the British Grand Prix over the weekend of June 18-20.

On course for completion in March, Silverstone will host motorcycle racing for the first time since 1986, with a new Arena Grand Prix circuit and improved spectator facilities. Managing Director of the circuit Richard Phillips explained the benefits of some of the new developments.

He said: “The biggest change is the new Arena section which is a brand new piece of track from Abbey up towards Becketts (corner) and that should introduce some new overtaking opportunities. It makes the circuit slightly longer, but the average speed is supposed to be the fastest for both bikes and cars.”

The new developments are also being incorporated into the new MotoGP 09/10 videogame, due for release in March, and Silverstone will be available as a downloadable update. You can find out more about the game here.
