another podium for corsi

A second consecutive podium at Mugello displayed the Italian’s consistency, aggressive style and talent once more.

There may only have been four races so far but Simone Corsi, one of the last riders to have been confirmed in the new Moto2 category, is already fighting at the top end of the Championship with his JiR Moto2 team. The Italian secured his second consecutive podium at Mugello on Sunday, following on from his fine display and identical third place at Le Mans in the previous round.

Corsi rose from 26th place on the starting grid at the latest round, the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM, to take a highly impressive third and it is an achievement that understandably thrilled him with it being his home race.

“Two consecutive podiums and this one being at my home GP – I’m very happy! I started very far back and had a great race. The bike was perfect and I had a lot of fun. The important thing is to always finish inside the top five positions, and we are achieving this at the moment,” he told motogp.com.

The Italian rider, who was runner-up in the 125cc class in 2008, has clear aims and is relishing his results of the moment whilst acknowledging that there is still plenty of racing to do.

“The Championship is long and at the moment I’m enjoying it,” stated the 23 year-old. “The home GP always helps. In qualifying I made a mistake and that meant I started from far back which complicated things. Both the bike and tyres were fine and I did my part so now I am satisfied.”

Corsi has not finished outside the points yet, having placed eighth and fifth in the two rounds prior to his back-to-back podiums. Next up is Silverstone, a new track for everyone.

“I’m not sure the PlayStation has this circuit so on the Thursday I’ll go out on the scooter, take a look and study it. It’s exciting to go to a new circuit, and everyone says it’s a spectacular track. We will see on Thursday!”
