Aoyama to miss Assen after Silverstone crash
The Interwetten Honda MotoGP Team rider will not participate in the TIM TT Assen this weekend after fracturing a vertebra in a fall at Silverstone on Sunday.
MotoGP rookie Hiroshi Aoyama will not ride at round six at Assen this weekend, after a fracture to his vertebra T12 was diagnosed following a crash in the Sunday morning warm up session for the AirAsia British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Aoyama came off his Interwetten Honda MotoGP RC212V machine six minutes into the 20-minute warm up, and after being taken to the medical centre at the circuit was then transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he still remains.
A second CT scan was performed on Monday morning which confirmed that the injury had not worsened overnight, and doctors informed Aoyama he can return home to Barcelona on Tuesday where he will be able to seek a second opinion.
A course of treatment for the injury has not yet been decided, but the 2009 250cc World Champion’s team confirmed on Monday that he would miss the TIM TT Assen, which commences on Thursday with the race on Saturday.
