‘Aspar’ celebrates 30th anniversary in motorcycling

This Wednesday evening, Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ will celebrate 30 years in the world of motorcycling with a special event, involving those who have played their part in his three-decade history in the sport from his debut as a rider in 1979 to his team’s 125cc World Championship title in 2009.

The team will hold their official 2010 presentation at the Prince Felipe of Valencia Museum of Science, as they embark on the new season with representatives across all three levels of the World Championship. Those who will be present at the celebratory event this evening will include riders who have accompanied him on track, such as Ángel Nieto and Álex Crivillé, as well as those who are or have been part of his team in Juan Bautista Borja, Jerónimo Vidal, Arnaud Vincent, the Nieto brothers, Ángel Rodríguez, Héctor Barberá, Héctor Faubel, Sergio Gadea, Julián Miralles Jr, Mateo Túnez, Álex de Angelis, Álvaro Bautista, Bradley Smith, Julián Simón, Mike Di Meglio and Nico Terol, as well as sponsors, journalists and personal friends.

For the event, which commences in the evening, 22 bikes have been restored and will be exhibited at the museum, along with 29 trophies and 20 sets of leathers. Amongst the items on show will be the Derbi on which Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ won his World Championship titles between 1986 and 1988, and the three Aprilias that secured the 2006, 2007 and 2009 125cc titles.

A projection of archived images will close the historical chapter, and will then make way for the presentation of the official Aspar teams in the three categories for 2010 – Bancaja Aspar 125, Mapfre Aspar Moto2 and Páginas Amarillas Aspar MotoGP.
