Team Aspar ready for business
Héctor Barberá and the satellite Ducati team are prepared for the start of their MotoGP quest, and Team Director Gino Borsoi has spoken to motogp.com about Jorge Martínez’s exciting new project.
On Thursday the newly formed Aspar MotoGP Team will take to the track with rider Héctor Barberá riding the Ducati Desmosedici GP10 at the official test at Sepang. After almost 20 years competing in the 125cc and 250cc – Moto2 from 2010 – categories, this season will be the first that the structure run by Jorge Martínez ‘Aspar’ will take part in the premier class.
Martínez’s fellow Valencian, Héctor Barberá, has been selected to ride the Desmosedici GP10 after a strong campaign in the final season of the 250cc class in 2009, and Team Director Gino Borsoi who has been with the outfit since 2004 will oversee the new era for Team Aspar in MotoGP.
“The work completed over these days will be very important,” explained the Italian. “It’s the first time we’ll be in Malaysia as a MotoGP team, so it’s new for us. There is a lot of work for Héctor and the team to undertake. He will have to adapt to the bike in the heat here in Malaysia. We will work as a team and find the right way to approach MotoGP.”
Speaking about his role, Borsoi added: “I am Team Director in Aspar across all three categories. This year I will concentrate mostly on MotoGP as there is a lot of work to do, but will still be in charge of Moto2 and 125cc.”
This will be the second time Barberá has ridden the GP10, after he completed a few laps on the machine at Jerez in November.
