Corsi completes the JiR Moto2 line-up
After the test at Misano an agreement between the Italian rider and team was struck, and he joins Mattia Pasini for the official Valencia test.
Mattia Pasini and Simone Corsi will be the two riders to carry the Team JiR Moto2 challenge in 2010. The former had been confirmed for some time but the agreement with Corsi was only finalised on Wednesday, coinciding with the private test at Misano and the first outing of Pasini on the TSR chassis.
“We’ve signed a contract for two years, with an option for a third,” said Corsi. “I debated for some time between 125cc and Moto2 and when this possibility arose I didn’t stop to think for a moment, because I really want to be a part of this new category. I think it will be a great championship, with spectacular races. I can’t wait for the test at Valencia.”
Gianluca Montiron, the man at the head of the JiR set-up, said at the end of the Misano test: “With Simone we are talking about a mid to long-term project. With Pasini the contract is annual, with options for renewal, foreseeing even a move up to MotoGP.”
Montiron continued: “I decided to participate in Moto2 and obtain the necessary ‘know how’ so that in the future my team is prepared to produce a chassis which is adaptable to the 1000cc engines of the premier class. To get experience with the 600cc engine is the best way, in my opinion. There is still no project because it’s necessary to see what the future of the premier class is, but in the meantime we are preparing.”
With the start of the new season fast approaching and the Valencia test starting on Monday, Montiron outlined his Moto2 plan: “The objective is to do well and be main players in every race, and the logical result is that we should be able to challenge for the title.”
