Simone Corsi reviews his early season progress

Simone Corsi has enjoyed an impressive start to the season, amassing 19 points with eight and fifth positions from the opening rounds of the 2010 campaign at Losail and Jerez. The Italian rider looks to have settled comfortably on the Motobi chassis of the JiR Moto2 team led by Gianluca Montiron, and is enjoying his experience in the new intermediate class.

“I’m learning a lot, every time I ride,” declared the Italian, whose previous experience lies mainly in the 125cc class, although he did ride in 250 for a year in 2005. “This is a bike which is completely different to anything I have ridden before, and it requires an adaptation from the rider to be able to understand it. I’m having fun because it is very good for riding in a sliding style, and everything is more spectacular.”

“I feel good, all around me there is a constructive atmosphere and a lot of teamwork, which is ideal for working well and in a calm manner. The thing we really need is time, because it’s necessary to ride as much as possible to bring it all together.”

In a category that is less than two races old there are still plenty of areas which can be improved on by riders and teams, one of which is grip. “The bikes are new for everyone, for the technicians, for Dunlop – there is still more to understand. Some bikes slide more and others less, but everything changes from circuit to circuit, including from every turn to turn.”

“We must ride more to be able to make conclusions and to be able to compare the data we have,” added Corsi.

Sixth in the overall standings after the opening two races, Corsi remains composed about his current position as the third round at Le Mans approaches.

“Sincerely, every Grand Prix is a surprise, and because of this I don’t have any expectations. What I am sure about is that I must improve my performance in qualifying to be able to start the race from nearer the front, otherwise everything becomes more difficult, too difficult,” he concluded.
