Debón: “We have to approach this as a normal weekend”
Moto2™ is powered byAfter finishing on the podium in the opening race of the Moto2 class in Qatar, the Spanish rider is looking for a victory in his home GP at Jerez.
Alex Debón has the opportunity to maintain what was a superb start to the 2010 season when he lines up for the second race of the campaign at Jerez this weekend. Second place at Losail gave the Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo rider 20 valuable Championship points and has left him just five off early standings leader Shoya Tomizawa, and a strong showing in the Gran Premio bwin de España would help Debón continue on his promising path.
“Jerez is my home Grand Prix, so obviously what I really want is a win at this race for the Spanish fans,” said Debón. “I will try to approach this weekend as a normal one however, working with my team to get the best out of the bike.”
“We are sure that we can find a good setting and I know the circuit very well, so if everything goes well I think we can have a good race,” added the 34 year-old, who last year took pole position in the 250cc race at the track but suffered the disappointment of crashing out on lap 10.
Debón has been entrusted with the evolution of the FTR M210 prototype, and knows that the 12 years experience he has acquired in Grand Prix racing will be able to make a difference in a category with such closely matched technical characteristics.
“Moto2 looks like a fantastic category. There is a great level of equality across the bikes and this is a positive thing. We’ll have to work hard to find an advantage, so during the race at Losail I worked to preserve my tyres and have better grip in the final laps, which is most important,” concluded Debón.
