Elías has one eye on premier class return
Moto2™ is powered byThe Gresini Racing Moto2 rider, who currently leads the intermediate category, has his heart firmly set on a MotoGP ride in 2011. See what the Spaniard said to motogp.com in the attached video interview.
Toni Elías was one of the riders who took the opportunity to gain a first impression of the Motorland Aragón circuit last week, when he attended the Moto2/125cc test at the track which will host the 12th round of the World Championship on September 19th.
Preparing for the next stage in his attempt to take the inaugural Moto2 title as the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland approaches, Elías said of the test: “I think that everything we found here is a good solution for the problems we have had in races, now we’ll see if it works well at Sachsenring. It’s not one of my favourite tracks but last year I had a good result (sixth in MotoGP), and if what we discovered here at Aragón does work then I think we could have a good weekend at Sachsenring.”
Offering his thoughts on the new addition to the 2010 World Championship calendar, Elías continued: “This track is incredible! It’s fast and slow, has downhill and uphill parts, in some areas the bike has to work well and in others the rider can make the difference. It’s a very complete circuit I think.”
With the news that Elías’ MotoGP team-mate from last year Alex de Angelis will be substituting for the injured Hiroshi Aoyama in the premier class from Germany until the Japanese rider’s return, Elías wished him well and also added a thought on his own possible return to the elite category.
“Last year he was my team-mate and we had a good relationship,” said Elías. “I don’t like the bad luck he has had this year with the bike and the crashes, sometimes it’s not been his fault and I think it’s good he has the opportunity to get back into MotoGP. I wish him all the best.”
On his own prospects Elías added: “I will wait to see what arrives. I am only thinking about a return to MotoGP for 2011 because I only want to stay in Moto2 for this year. If I am World Champion or not I would like to be in MotoGP for 2011.”
