Espargaró describes “fun and complicated” route to Le Mans win
The Tuenti Racing rider took his second win of the 2010 campaign in only the third round to maintain his early season form, and keep a close Championship battle with Nico Terol running.
Pol Espargaró confirmed his Championship pedigree on Sunday with a second win of 2010, at the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France. The Tuenti Racing rider was consistently fast throughout the weekend, topping both practice sessions and starting the race from second position on the grid at Le Mans.
The young Spaniard is currently involved in a close duel with compatriot Nico Terol at the top of the 125cc standings, and with victory on Sunday following his win at Jerez he cut the points advantage held by his rival to just two points.
“I’m delighted,” enthused Espargaró. “The race was fun and complicated because Nico rode so well, but I did what I could. He went well at the start because he had softer tyres, and I had to take some risks to make sure he did not escape.”
“The team did a very good job with the engine and the bike which I’m very happy about, and of course the victory too!” he added.
The engrossing contest between the duo and the other riders with aspirations of high finishes will continued in round four at Mugello, where Espargaró finished on the podium in 2008 and placed fourth last season.
“We will see what happens in Mugello,” he said. “We are very strong and we can do a very good job. I like the track but it’s very difficult. It’s a race that will have a lot of good riders in the challenging group. In 125cc there can be any result! So we must wait and see then.”
