Injury for Marconi puts Le Mans participation in doubt

Friday, 14 May 2010

The Italian suffered a fall during motocross training but wants to be present for the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France next week.

With only a week to go until the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France weekend gets underway on Friday May 21st the possibilities of seeing Luca Marconi line up on the grid for the third round of the 2010 125cc World Championship are slim.

The Ongetta Team rider, one of the few Italians in the category this season, suffered a fall during a motocross training exercise on Tuesday. Marconi was taken to the ‘M. Bufalini’ hopsital in Cesena, where a double fracture in his left ankle was diagnosed.

Marconi was visited yesterday by Doctor Claudio Costa of the Clinica Mobile, who will decide next Thursday whether the youngster is fit enough to be able to ride at Le Mans.

Marconi is the third Italian rider to have suffered a motocross accident this year, following famous compatriots Valentino Rossi and Marco Simoncelli. It was also confirmed on Friday that Spanish MotoGP rider Álvaro Bautista had fractured his collarbone in a motocross training fall.
