Spanish strength continues in 125cc at Jerez
Marc Márquez again demonstrates his great form with the fastest time of the second day of the official test.
Marc Márquez confirmed his superb pre-season form on Sunday at the Jerez circuit, by ending the second day of the official test at the top of the timesheets. The Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider, who was fastest at the first test at Valencia last week, registered a time of 1’47.473, which was just under three-tenths of a second better than Pol Espargaró (Bainet Derbi) and marginally more than a second quicker than Saturday’s pace setter Efrén Vázquez (also Bainet Derbi).
“At first the track was skidding a bit, but when it dried out the grip was pretty good and we were able to ride well,” explained Márquez. “We’ve done a good job and set a good time – my personal record at this circuit. We didn’t fall, which is important, because with the puddles it would have been easy to.”
In fourth and fifth place on the sheet respectively were Bancaja Aspar pairing Nico Terol and Bradley Smith, and another Brit, Danny Webb (Andalucia Cajasol) was sixth. Esteve Rabat (Blusens STX) and Alberto Moncayo (Andalucia Cajasol) completed the top eight riders. Swiss Randy Krummenacher (Molenaar Racing) was ninth, with Sandro Cortese (Avant Intact Ajo Motorsport) completing the top ten.
The changeable weather, although without rain, has caused problems for some riders in the final stages of the 125cc session. Johann Zarco (WTR San Marino Team) and Webb both had falls, without major effects.
