Watch Kenny Roberts at the Indy Mile 34 years later
The former World Champion took the Yamaha TZ750 out on track on the eve of the 2009 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, and you can watch a free video of his emotional ride.
Kenny Roberts was present at the 2009 AMA Lucas Oil Indy Mile Grand National race in Indianapolis last August, and treated fans to a special appearance.
Some 34 years after he won on the Yamaha TZ750 in 1975, Roberts delighted those present by riding the machine at the Indy Mile, and was congratulated afterwards by current MotoGP star Valentino Rossi.
“I was a little bit nervous about doing this, I had my bone doctor on standby!” admits Roberts in the free video you can view here. “Watching a mile, and especially the Indy mile, is the most fun part of motorcycle racing – I think Valentino found that out. I didn’t practice before the event because there wasn’t any kind that could gear me up to ride the TZ750 at that mile. It was almost like being there in 1975, it was very moving for me.”
You can watch Roberts riding the bike and talking about his experience on the TZ750, both past and present, in the free video here.
