Lorenzo participates in road safety campaign for motorcyclists

Jorge Lorenzo accepted an invitation from the Catalan police force last week to participate in a road safety campaign, spending a day with the Mossos d’Esquadra to help raise awareness amongst motorcyclists in an attempt to prevent accidents.

The current leader of the MotoGP World Championship standings spoke with more than 20 motorcyclists who were riding along the C-35 motorway, which passes the Montmeló circuit near Barcelona. Lorenzo handed out safety leaflets which carried the slogan ‘Do not wash your hands’. Many of the motorcyclists who were stopped were surprised to be met by the 2009 World Championship runner-up, and even asked for autographs and photos with the Spanish star.

“I’ve never been on the road next to police, and it’s been an experience to see how they listen to the motorcyclists. At first I didn’t know how to pass on all the points of the campaign, but I think they’ve understood that the important thing is to behave on the road. The bike is a precious object, one to enjoy. Few things are comparable to riding a motorbike, but you have to do it with care and must respect yourself and everyone else,” explained Lorenzo.

“Those who want to race must go to the circuit. If being here today means an accident has been prevented and a life saved, then it will have been worth it,” added Lorenzo. “Thanks to the Mossos d’Esquadra for giving me this opportunity.”
