Team Fontana replace Moretti with Grotzkyj
Days before his home race, the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM, a financial problem means the Italian 125cc Champion will not continue racing for the World Championship team. Moretti does still hope to ride as a wild card at Mugello however.
Riccardo Moretti and the Fontana Racing team today ended their partnership for the 2010 season and, as a consequence, the Italian 125cc Champion will not ride the RSA 125 of the team at his home GP at Mugello this weekend. Replacing him will be fellow Italian Simone Grotzkyj Giorgi.
Moretti, who was in his debut World Championship season, has seen one of his main sponsors withdraw the funding that had secured his place. Although his first two races had not ended in success – a crash at Jerez and a retirement at Le Mans – his displays had hinted at great potential.
The 25 year-old Italian was understandably disappointed but is hopeful of finding a replacement ride for his home GP. “We’re going to Mugello in the hope of being able to participate as a wildcard,” he said.
