Iannone stamps authority on final practice
Moto2™ is powered byThe Fimmco Speed Up rider, fastest on Friday at Aragón, was again quickest in the third and final Moto2 practice before qualifying later on Saturday.
Andrea Iannone set the fastest Moto2 lap of the weekend so far on Saturday morning at Aragón as the Italian made his final preparations for an attempt at securing pole position later in the day. The Fimmco Speed Up rider, quickest in the opening session on Friday, timed in with a best effort of 1'55.666 to take over half a second off his previous best.
FP3 was run without the backdrop of rain that had marked the second session the previous day, and whilst the practice started on a track still wet from overnight rain it quickly began drying out. That allowed a number of other riders to improve on their times from the opening day, including wild card rider Kev Coghlan (Monlau Joe Darcey). The Brit set the second best time of the session - and weekend - at 0.230s off Iannone, finishing ahead of Championship leader Toni Elías (Gresini Racing) by a fraction over three-hundredths of a second.
Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2) and Claudio Corti (Forward Racing) completed the top five in the session, with Dominique Aegerter (Technomag-CIP) and Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) in sixth and seventh respectively. Simón did not improve on his day one time but remains fifth overall in the combined times across all three practice sessions thanks to his FP1 effort.
There was a crash at the end of the session for Sergio Gadea (Tenerife 40 Pons) who slid out at turn 16. Fortunately the Spanish rider was uninjured.
The Moto2 qualifying session gets underway at 1.05pm local time.
