Bradl continues form with FP1 Valencia display
Moto2™ is powered byThe race winner from the previous in Portugal round set the fastest time in the first Moto2 practice at Valencia on Friday morning. In the battle for runner-up in the Championship Simón started with fourth best time, whilst a crash for Iannone limited his participation and left him down in 39th.
The momentum of his first Moto2 win carried into the first practice at Valencia for German rider Stefan Bradl on Friday morning, as the Viessmann Kiefer Racing man topped the first practice at Valencia with a best time of 1’37.108. Having taken victory in the previous round in Portugal the 20 year-old was quickest in the first run in the final round of 2010 in Spain, leading the session by just 0.025s ahead of Karel Abraham.
The Cardion ab Motoracing rider, who graduates to the premier class next season, timed in ahead of Frenchman Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) and Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), the latter of whom is aiming to seal runner-up spot in the inaugural Moto2 Championship this weekend.
Simón leads Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) by six points going into this final round, and it was an unhappy session for the Italian who crashed, was stretchered off and then had ice applied to his left ankle in his team garage. With his time on track therefore limited Iannone finished the session down in 39th having completed just three laps.
World Champion Toni Elías (Gresini Racing) was fifth behind Simón, with young British talent Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) getting his weekend underway with the sixth-fastest lap of the session. Alex de Angelis (JiR Moto2), Claudio Corti (Forward Racing), Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag-CIP) and Roman Ramos (MIR Racing) completed the top ten.
Also on track despite fracturing a collarbone in Portugal last weekend was Spanish rider Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo), who placed an impressive 14th. The Moto2 class returns to the track at 3.10pm local time for the second practice.
