Elías finds Brno rhythm with top FP2 time

Toni Elías made the perfect final preparations for qualifying on Saturday when he set the best time of the second practice session at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Czech Republic. The current Championship leader’s time of 2’03.964 placed him at the head of the timesheet as he flew round the Brno circuit in preparation of securing a second pole of the season – his first since the opening round in Qatar.

The Gresini Racing rider, who did not ride in the first session due to a testing infringement, was the only rider under the 2’04” marker, as he beat Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) to the number one slot on the timesheet. The Italian was 0.107s behind, with Yuki Takahashi (Tech 3 Racing) third at 0.201s off Elías.

Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag-CIP) was fourth fastest on his Suter machine, with Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2), Gabor Talmacsi (Fimmco Speed Up) and Raffaele De Rosa (Tech 3 Racing) completing the top eight.

There were falls in the session for De Rosa, Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) and Ricky Cardús (Maquinza Team) – all without consequence – with Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing) surviving a run off to stay on his bike.
