Gadea continues upward curve with top second practice time

The Tenerife 40 Pons rider was the fastest of the Moto2 field in the Saturday morning session, ahead of Tom Lüthi and Andrea Iannone.

Sergio Gadea (Tenerife 40 Pons) stepped up to set the best time in the second Moto2 practice on Saturday morning, with a best time of 1’56.244 edging the Spaniard ahead of Tom Lüthi by just 0.017s.

Interwetten Moriwaki Moto2 team rider Lüthi had led the session until Gadea’s penultimate lap pushed him to the top, after an impressive first practice the day before which had seen him second. Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) was the highest home representative at the Mugello circuit, placing third.

Mike di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar) took his Suter chassis round in the fourth fastest time, with Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2) making it two Italians in the top five. Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT Singha-SAG), Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing) completed a provisional second row.

Friday’s quickest rider Alex de Angelis (RSM Team Scot) set the ninth best time, 0.533s off the pace of Gadea, with Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) also inside the top ten. Championship leader Toni Elías (Gresini Racing Moto2) was 20th in the session, with the only faller being Axel Pons (Tenerife 40 Pons).
