The Italian took the top spot on the FP2 timesheet with Jules Cluzel making it a Forward Racing one-two. Scott Redding completed the top three as he prepared to mount a strong home QP.

Claudio Corti snatched the top time in the second Moto2 practice at Silverstone on Saturday, setting a fastest lap of 2’09.972 with his final effort. The Italian was a massive 0.759s ahead of second placed Jules Cluzel, his Forward Racing team-mate, who had taken the lead from Scott Redding as the session came to a close only to see Corti then shoot in front.

Marc VDS Racing rider Redding, who has targeted a strong qualifying as the key to a good home GP result, was third at 0.097s behind Cluzel as the Moto2 field were met with dry conditions as opposed to Friday’s soaking first session. The young Brit survived a moment at the end of the session when he ran wide coming onto the finish line straight.

Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) also enjoyed a strong practice as he placed fourth on the timesheet, with Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo) and Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) fifth and sixth. Xavier Simeon (Holiday Gym G22), Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda PTT Singha-SAG), Mike di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar) and Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing) completed the top ten.

Raffaele De Rosa (Tech3 Racing) ran off inside the opening five minutes, and last round’s race winner Andrea Iannone (Fimmco Speed Up) suffered falls at each end of the session. Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag-CIP) also experienced a run off track midway through.

Moto2 qualifying gets underway at 3.10pm local time.
