Iannone puts forward pole intentions
The Italian of the Fimmco Speed Up team was quickest in the second Moto2 practice at Sachsenring, ahead of Simón, Abraham and Corsi.
Andrea Iannone reinstated himself as a prime candidate for pole position in the Moto2 category at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland on Saturday with the fastest time in the second practice. The Italian, who has been on pole for the last two rounds of the campaign, registered a best time of 1’25.853 at Sachsenring to top the timesheet.
That placed the Fimmco Speed Up rider ahead of Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) and Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing), who were the last two riders under the 1’26” bar and both were within 0.106s of the top time.
Completing a heavily Italian influenced top five were Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2) and Raffaele De Rosa (Tech3 Racing). An eye catching display from Damian Cudlin, riding as a stand-in for the injured Axel Pons on the Tenerife 40 Pons team, placed the Australian sixth.
Also inside the top ten for the session were Alex Baldolini (Caretta Technology Race Dept), Alex Debón (Aeroport de Castelló-Ajo), Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR) and Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX).
There was a fall during the session for Lukas Pesek (Matteoni CP Racing) who escaped uninjured, whilst Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing Team), Robertino Pietri (Italtrans STR), Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag-CIP) and Iannone all had non-consequential run offs.
