First day of Moto2 action ends at Jerez
An afternoon without rain allows far more productivity on the track, and Alex De Angelis is the fastest rider of the Moto2 class.
The morning rain which limited early activity on the morning of the first day of the official test at Jerez today (Saturday) had disappeared by the afternoon, allowing the majority of the riders of the intermediate category to take to the Andalusian track.
Alex De Angelis (Scot Racing) set the fastest time of the day and was the only rider to come in under the 1’56” mark (1’55.835), with Tech3 Racing’s Raffaele De Rosa just over two-tenths further down the timesheet as he made an impression, following a relatively quiet first official test at Valencia last week.
Toni Elías (Gresini Racing), who was one of only two riders to have made it out on track by 1.30pm local time, was third quickest in 1’56.246, with Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Racing) and Jules Cluzel (Forward Racing) completing the top five on the timesheet. Simone Corsi’s (Team JiR Moto2) adaptation to the new intermediate class continues to go well, and he was the final rider under the 1’57” barrier, whilst Arne Tode (Racing Team Germany) was seventh. Alex Baldolini (Caretta Technology Racing Dept.) and Axel Pons (Pons Racing) were also inside the top ten times on this first day.
Turning to the two riders who went quickest at Valencia, and Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) did not ride in the afternoon session and ended the first day at Jerez tenth fastest overall, with Kenny Noyes (Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas) 12th.
Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR) returned to action on the track following his injury in the private test at Montmeló in mid-February, completing nine laps in the afternoon session.
