Presentation of the ROSA Project at Jerez
Coinciding with the start of the Gran Premio bwin de España on Friday, the initiative to reduce motorcycling accidents in the European Union was presented at the Spanish circuit.
The main objective of the European ROSA Project (Road Safety) is to reduce motorcycling accidents across the continent through the promotion and distribution of a Good Practices Manual. The outline of the initiative was made during an official presentation on Friday at the Jerez circuit.
To develop the initiative, co-founded by the European Commission, a consortium has been established which is formed by the Spanish Motorcycling Federation (RFME), MotoGP organisers Dorna Sports, the European Union Road Federation (ERF), the Portuguese Motorcycling Federation (FMP), the Italian organisation Motorcyclist Coordination (CM), the Mutual Motorcyclists Association (AMM) and the ‘CIDAUT Foundation’ which is based in Boecillo in Valladolid, Spain. The initiative also has the collaboration of the ‘Buckler 0,0 - Responsible Driving’.
The ROSA Project’s findings will be produced in a Good Practices Manual, which will evaluate the distinct initiatives that have been put into practice across the European Union in a bid to improve safety for motorcyclists.
The Project will gather the opinions of motorcyclists and those involved in the motorcycling sector, and will organise a range of workshops with road safety experts to be held at various MotoGP World Championship Grand Prix weekends throughout 2010.
Friday’s presentation was attended by Aurora Cedenilla, Deputy Director of Training of the Spanish Directorate General of Traffic, President of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) Mr Vito Ippolito, CEO of Dorna Sports Mr Carmelo Ezpeleta, the first Spanish 500cc World Champion and ROSA Project collaborator Alex Crivillé, and official representative of the Project, Andrés Pérez Rubio.
The Project is defined by the slogan “On the road, living together is surviving”, and is therefore aimed not only at motorcyclists but also at other road users, road administrations, traffic management entities as well as vehicle and equipment manufacturers.
