Iannone adjusts quickest to Aragón with record time
The Fimmco Speed Up Moto2 rider was one of 42 riders on track for the first of two days of a private test at Motorland Aragón circuit, and set a new circuit lap record. Marc Márquez was the fastest 125cc participant.
There were 30 Moto2 riders and 12 from the 125cc class on track at the Motorland Aragón circuit on Tuesday, the first of two days of a private test. Italian rider Andrea Iannone was the fastest of the intermediate class riders, while Marc Márquez led the way in the 125cc batch.
Taking the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the venue for Round 12 of the MotoGP World Championship which takes place on September 19th the riders made the most of the fine weather, with Fimmco Speed Up’s Iannone the quickest with a lap of 1’55.364 set in the morning session.
Shoya Tomizawa was 0.394s further off in second slot and his time was set before suffering a crash at Turn 13 in the afternoon, when he lost the front of his Suter of the Technomag-CIP team. Fortunately the Japanese rider escaped unharmed, but his participation for the day was ended an hour early as his bike was not able to be repaired before the session’s end at 5pm.
Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) was third (1’55.814) with World Championship leader Toni Elías (Gresini Racing) fourth (1’55.852) thanks to his last lap of the day. Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2) was the final rider under the 1’56” mark as he completed the top five.
Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR), Yuki Takahashi (Tech 3 Racing), Xavier Simeon (Holiday Gym) Tom Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Moto2) and Claudio Corti (Forward Racing) were all also inside the top ten on the opening day.
Swiss chassis manufacturer Suter were present and had Racing Team Germany rider Arne Tode testing a range of different options for them, which they then intend to provide on Wednesday to a selection of riders which include Simón and Rolfo. Moriwaki had Shogo Moriwaki on track, while for the teams Angel Rodriguez was riding for Maquinza-SAG and German supersport leader Damian Cudlin rode for the Tenerife 40 Pons team in place of the injured Axel Pons. Mattia Pasini was another addition to the list of attendees, and was riding out of the Italtrans STR box.
In the 125cc class Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Márquez was at the top of the timesheet with a lap of 1’59.544, ahead of Tuenti Racing pair Pol Espargaró (+0.353s) and Efrén Vázquez (+1.132s) as they all took a first look at the circuit.
