Iannone ends Aragón test as fastest of day two

Andrea Iannone rounded off the second and final day of the private Moto2/125cc test at Motorland Aragón with the fastest time once more, and his lap of 1’55.424 set in the morning was just six-hundredths slower than his previous day’s best time, which was a new circuit record.

The Italian of the Fimmco Speed Up team was joined by three other riders under the 1’56” mark on Wednesday; Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar), Toni Elías (Gresini Racing) and Roberto Rolfo (Italtrans STR). Reigning 125cc World Champion Simón had a fall at Turn 2 in the morning and was uninjured, returning to the track to complete 28 laps by 1pm, and his best time left him 0.144s off Iannone. Championship leader Elías was 0.423s down on Iannone’s marker and 0.065s ahead of Rolfo, whose last lap of the day propelled him to fourth in the rankings.

Continuing his recovery from surgery on his collarbone Tom Lüthi (Interwetten Moriwaki Moto2) was fifth quickest with a time of 1’56.033, with British rider Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) inside the top six as he enjoyed learning the layout further. Raffaele de Rosa (Tech 3 Racing) and Simone Corsi (JiR Moto2) also made the top eight on day two. Shoya Tomizawa (Technomag-CIP) was 13th fastest and experienced a difficult day, as he had two crashes which fortunately resulted in no injury.

Swiss chassis manufacturer Suter were also out on track again with German rider Arne Tode, and provided the teams present and using their frames with an evolved chassis design and some different suspension settings they had worked on yesterday. Suter reported having received highly positive feedback on the new aspects.

In the 125cc class the top rider from day one was also fastest on day two as Marc Márquez (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) set a best time of 1’58.619 by 1pm, when he rounded off his day early. The World Championship leader took almost a second off his previous day’s best, and was followed by Tuenti Racing pair Pol Espargaró and Efrén Vázquez.
