Aspar and Pons complete test day at Valencia
Both the 125cc and Moto2 Aspar teams and the Tenerife 40 Pons Moto2 outfit were present at the circuit on Wednesday.
Valencia was the setting on Wednesday as different Moto2 and 125cc teams undertook a day of testing between the Misano and Aragón rounds. Amongst those present at the track, which will host the final round of the 2010 World Championship on November 7th, were Mapfre Aspar Moto2 pair Julián Simón and Mike di Meglio, Tenerife 40 Pons duo Sergio Gadea and Axel Pons, and Bancaja Aspar 125cc riders Nico Terol and Bradley Smith.
Simón and Di Meglio used the day to work on the fine tuning of their Suter prototypes, concentrating on stability and minimisation of rear sliding. “It’s been a positive day because we were able to assess how the bike runs at this track,” commented Simón. “We worked hard throughout the day and it’s just a shame the wind arrived in the afternoon. Overall I’m very happy because we tested different modifications that will help us understand the bike.”
Simón, currently second in the Championship, concluded the test with a best time of 1’37.29 as he completed 67 laps, with Di Meglio setting a fastest lap of 1’38.45 from 78 turns of the circuit.
Over in the Tenerife 40 Pons garage Gadea and Pons worked on advancing their knowledge of the track on the Pons Kalex machine, trying out different settings and also testing parts for development by the German engineering firm.
“It’s been important because we have solved some problems that we’ve had during the last few races, problems that once solved have allowed me to improve my performance. The only thing we lacked was a little more work on the rear of the bike,” observed Gadea.
125cc rider Terol tested various exhausts and some fairings with the objective of improving the acceleration and aerodynamics on his Aprilia. The Spaniard, currently second in the Championship, ended the day very satisfied with the outcome. Smith concentrated on various aspects with the intention of improving the power of his machine, and was satisfied that the information gathered will help him in the final six rounds of the campaign.
