Five riders take part in Moto2 test at Misano
The poor weather conditions had an affect on the test at Misano on Wednesday, in which Toni Elías set the fastest unofficial time.
Morning rain and a temperature of 10ºC meant that conditions at Misano were not ideal for the five riders who took part in the private Moto2 test on Wednesday. Ahead of the first official Moto2 test at Valencia, which starts on Monday, a handful of riders who will compete in the inaugural season of the new intermediate category rode their prototypes.
Alex de Angelis and Niccolò Canepa (Scot Racing Team), Toni Elías (Gresini Racing), Mattia Pasini (JiR Team) and World Championship rookie Vladimir Ivanov (Gresini Racing) were all present at the San Marinese circuit on Wednesday after not attending the private test at Catalunya last week for varying reasons.
In the JiR garage team director Gianluca Montiron today formalised an agreement with Simone Corsi (formerly of Fontana Racing 125) for the 2010 season, and the rider will begin his Moto2 experience with the team at Valencia.
The fastest rider at the test – according to unofficial times recorded by the teams – was Elías, who posted a best lap of 1’56.4 on his Moriwaki chassis, some four-tenths of a second quicker than Pasini who completed almost 30 laps on his TSR machine. The third rider to have a time was Ivanov, who came in at 2’00.5.
The Scot team did not record any times due to the 10 laps each completed by De Angelis and Canepa, the latter of whom suffered a fall. The former MotoGP rider hit his head in the incident but will be fit to ride at Valencia next week (March 1-3), along with the other four riders.
