Del Torchio: “We have always tried to have the best”

The Ducati President discussed the impact he expects Valentino Rossi to have on the factory MotoGP team and development of the Desmosedici.

The buzz surrounding the unveiling of Valentino Rossi in Ducati colours at Madonna di Campligio this week continued on Tuesday, as President Gabriele del Torchio discussed the effect he expects the Italian to have on the Desmosedici.

“I believe he will have a tremendous impact on our brand in terms of the technological development. Claudio Domenicali will speak about this specifically on Wednesday morning at the GP11 presentation, but I’m expecting a contribution from Valentino in terms of product development,” said Del Torchio on the day Rossi gave his first interviews as a Ducati rider.

“The main reason we have Valentino with us is not to boost sales, it’s to maintain the brand awareness and then in the long term to bring up sales. If you look at the history of Ducati we have always tried to have the best,” continued Del Torchio, who refused to be drawn on stating his expectations on how the all-Italian partnership could fare in 2011.

“I cannot make forecasts right now,” he said in conclusion. “One thing is for sure though, Ducati and Valentino are together. If we win it’s together, if we lose it is together. It’s very exciting and I’m very proud to have Valentino with us.”
