Capirossi: “The potential of the GP11 is very high”

Following the first Test of 2011 the Pramac Racing rider discussed his switch to riding the Desmosedici this season.

After three seasons riding the Suzuki GSV-R Loris Capirossi is back on the Desmosedici in 2011 – a bike he rode for five seasons until 2007 – with the Pramac Racing team.

The Italian, who rode the Ducati upon its introduction to MotoGP in 2003 and subsequently aided its development during his time on the factory team, is now readjusting to the latest version of the Desmosedici and completed his second Test on the GP11 in Malaysia last week.

“I really like the team and I’m happy to be working with the Ducati bike once again,” said Capirossi, who was 13th fastest overall at the Sepang Test at 1.3s off the top time. “I have to change my riding style a little bit because I rode the Suzuki for three years, and that is completely different. Whenever you make a big change (of bike) it’s not so easy overall, and of course this bike is very different to the one I rode in the past. The bike has its own style and we just have to understand that.”

With a further Test at Sepang (February 22nd-24th) and a final run in Qatar (March 13th-14th) before the start of the 2011 season, Capirossi is confident he can adapt in time for the season opener at Losail.

“The potential of the GP11 is very high, it’s just that at the moment I’m not using its full potential,” explained the man who has 99 World Championship podiums. “I have time to improve and work on my style though, and we have enough days of Testing remaining to prepare for the first race. I think we’ll be ready for it!”
