Terol concludes clean sweep in Valencia

Terol concludes clean sweep in Valencia

The Bancaja Aspar rider, who was joint fastest on day one and topped the timesheet on day two at the 125cc Test, was quickest on the third and final day. Maverick Viñales wrapped up a convincing outing in second, with Héctor Faubel third.

Nico Terol confirmed his status as title favourite for the 2011 125cc World Championship with the quickest time of the first major Test of the pre-season at Valencia. The Bancaja Aspar rider's unofficially timed lap of 1'40.0 on Saturday, the third and final day of the gathering, was the best of the entire Test and confirmed the 2010 Championship runner-up's early pre-season strength on his Aprilia.

Just as impressive across the three days has been rookie Maverick Viñales, and the young Spaniard – who in 2010 took his domestic title – was just 0.1s off Terol's pace on Saturday. Completing the top three and making it an all-Spanish trio was Héctor Faubel, team-mate to Terol and an experienced 125cc campaigner who last year competed in the Moto2 class. The 2007 125cc World Championship runner-up was two-tenths off his team-mate's final day marker.

Another rookie who has shone in this Test has been Portuguese youngster Miguel Oliveira, and the Andalucia Cajasol rider was fourth on the final day with a best effort of 1'40.7, six-tenths ahead of his team-mate Alberto Moncayo who finished in fifth position.

Completing the top ten on the final day were Sandro Cortese, Efrén Vázquez, Johann Zarco, Jonas Folger and Sergio Gadea. British youngster Danny Kent was 12th with a time of 1'42.1, having knocked a full second off his previous day's effort.

There was unfortunate news for Jakub Kornfeil of the Ongetta-Centro-Seta team, who had a fall on Friday. The young Czech rider was taken to hospital yesterday, where a small fracture was diagnosed in his right leg, an injury which is expected to sideline him for between two to three weeks.
