Simon and Terol get Aragon test underway

At the first day of Moto2/125 testing at Aragon, Aspar riders Julian Simon and Nico Terol were the fastest at midday in their respective classes.

It was a busy morning session at the Motorland Aragon circuit where various Moto2 and 125 teams are testing on Wednesday and Thursday, with 22 riders on track, most of them from Moto2 teams as the only 125 outfits present in Alcañiz are Bankia Aspar, Blusens SMX by Paris Hilton and TT Motion Events Racing with Niklas Ajo.

At 13.00 Julian Simon was holding the fastest time as he managed to beat Iannone's 2010 pole record with a lap clocked in 1'55.090. He was the only rider to break the 1'56 mark, ahead of Bradley Smith (Tech3 Racing), Javier Forés (Mapfre Aspar), Santi Hernández (SAG PTT) and Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha SAG).

The early hours of the test were marked by a spectacular crash by Axel Pons, who destroyed his Pons Kalex bike in turn 5 but fortunately escaped any injury.

125 Championship leader Nico Terol was the fastest over the first half of the day, followed by Maverick Viñales. The winner of the French GP was only 0.062s adrift from Terol.

Weather conditions are excellent for this first day of testing with air temperature at 31ºC at midday and track temperature over 36ºC with very little wind, so riders will be able to make the most of the track until 17.30 when the track closes.
