Morales replaces De Rosa in G22 Moto2 set-up

Morales replaces De Rosa in G22 Moto2 set-up

The team managed by brothers Gelete and Pablo Nieto have selected the Spanish rider to campaign on a Moriwaki for the remainder of the season, following a successful private test at Aragón.

Carmelo Morales will ride the Moriwaki machine of the Desguaces La Torre G22 team for the remainder of the 2011 Moto2 season. The partnership will commence at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya next week following a successful test at the MotorLand Aragón circuit earlier this week.

Pablo Nieto, Team Director, explained to motogp.com: “Carmelo made a great impression across these two days. He’s a very fast rider, as proven by the titles he has won in different categories of the Spanish National Championship.”

Nieto added that the decision to replace Raffaele de Rosa was down to the importance of having a Spanish rider on board, especially with regards to sponsorship. “We had no problem with Raffaele, it’s an unforeseen situation and we’ll do all we can in order to help him find a team,” he added.

Morales has until now been defending his domestic Moto2 title which he won last season in the CEV Buckler, and has this year been assisting Swiss chassis manufacturer Suter in its development of a MotoGP prototype for 2012. The 32 year-old rode in three Moto2 GPs last season, at Catalunya, Estoril and Valencia.
