Terol fastest in first practice

Championship points leader Nicolas Terol (Bankia Aspar) tops the first 125cc practice session of the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya weekend. Following with the second quickest time was Sandro Cortese (Intact Racing Team Germany), one spot ahead of Efrén Vázquez (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo).

The Bankia Aspar rider entered the first practice session of the weekend leading the championship by 36 points, ahead of Sandro Cortese. Therefore, it was no great surprise to see his name appear at the top of the timesheets in first practice with a best time of 1’53.001, finishing 0.467 seconds ahead of the German Cortese.

Efrén Vázquez (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) produced a close third fastest time, just 0.071 seconds behind Cortese, and 0.434 seconds ahead of Spaniard Sergio Gadea (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing Team) who was fourth quickest of the session.

Maverick Viñales had been the initial pace setter earlier on in the session and was only knocked off the leading five in the last remaining three minutes, eventually finishing sixth, one tenth of a second behind the second Bankia Aspar rider Adrian Martin.

Rounding out the top ten were, Héctor Faubel (Bankia Aspar) finishing seventh. Faubel suffered a minor crash earlier on in the session but was able to recuperate and finish in the top ten. Eighth was Alberto Moncayo (Team Andalucía Banca Cívica), followed by Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) and British rider Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport).

Alessandro Tonucci (Team Italia FMI) was the second rider to take a fall in a crash during the session. He was later joined by the Spanish wildcard entry Josep Rodrigues (Wild Wolf-Racc-MS) who was able to rejoin the session and record a pace that set him in 21st.
