Thomas Lüthi ahead in final practice in Barcelona

Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2) took the lead ahead of Bradley Smith (Tech 3) and local Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) in the final practice session of Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya.

In the final minutes of the Moto2 FP3, Thomas Lüthi grabbed the top spot from the leaders, setting a fast time of 1’47.383, followed by Bradley Smith who pushed local Marc Márquez out of second position, relegating the Spaniard to third. The Catalunya local Márquez appeared to be back in form after a crash in FP1 yesterday.

Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) led the second half of the session but was relegated to fourth, followed by Andrea Iannone (Speed Master) close on his heels with a time just short 0.021s of Redding.

Aleix Espargaró of the Pons HP 40 team finished sixth, though he had appeared set to grab the second fastest time until the final three minutes. Mapfre Aspar's Julian Simon ended the session behind Aleix in seventh, just edging Jules Cluzel of Forward Racing out by 0.029s. Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) followed in ninth and Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) completed the top ten with a time of 1’47.737.

The top 26 riders ended the final practice session within one second of each other.
