Vázquez heads rainy warm up in Catalunya

Efrén Vázquez (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo) led the way in the twenty minute warm up for the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya. Second was third place qualifier Maverick Viñales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing Team), ahead of Miguel Oliveira (Team Andalucía Banca Cívica).

The 125cc riders entered a rainy warm up session this morning, slowing the pace and causing several crashes. But Spanish rider Efrén Vázquez lead the wet session with a time of 2’06.416, which was significantly slower than his fifth place qualifying time of 1’52.288. Rookie Maverick Viñales briefly topped the times but followed Vázquez, joined by Miguel Oliveira (Team Andalucía Banca Cívica) who qualified in16th.

The were several riders who hit the asphalt due to the slippery conditions including Alberto Moncayo (Team Andalucía Banca Cívica), who ran in the top times until a highside took him out in the last two minutes. Mallorcan Joan Perelló (Matteoni Racing) crashed but walked away unhurt.

Other causualties of the morning warm up included 15th place qualifier Jasper Iwema (Ongetta-Abbink Metaal) who had a run off mid session and Adrián Martín (Bankia Aspar), who appeared to encounter technical problems, his bike slowing on the track before he exited the session.
