Simoncelli second at Silverstone

Simoncelli second at Silverstone

Team San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli spent another day of practice at the sharp end of the time sheets today, setting fast laps in wet and dry conditions at Silverstone.

The Italian and pacesetter Casey Stoner held a significant gap over the rest of the field today, with “Super Sic” receiving applause from the British fans on every lap. Overall it has been a positive opening day at the British Grand Prix as the Italian targets his first MotoGP podium. Hiroshi Aoyama, on the other hand, was unable to find a comfortable setting for either conditions at a circuit where he suffered serious injury one year ago.

Marco Simoncelli:
“I am happy but at the moment Stoner is faster than us in wet and dry so we have to work to close the gap. In both cases I am losing the most time in the final sector so we need to work out why that is before making changes to the set-up. It is good to be on the pace again and I hope it continues because the most important day is Sunday, when we need to be fast in the race. I am also really happy with the support I have had from the British fans, who have been cheering for me in both sessions, and for the welcome I got yesterday. It's really nice.”

Hiroshi Aoyama:
”Today was hard and we struggled to get confident with the bike in both sessions. I don't have any feeling and tomorrow we need to work to make up time. I will do my best.”
