Simeon leads dreary Silverstone warm up

Xavier Simeon (Tech 3 B) topped the morning’s Moto2 warm up session, which was hampered by light rain and mist. Andrea Iannone (Speed Master) and Bradley Smith (Tech 3) followed second and third in the timings.

Simeon and Iannone posted the fastest laps of the warm up session ahead of the AirAsia British Grand Prix race this morning, under dreary conditions. The light rain and mist slowed the Moto2 session considerably, with the 600cc machines throwing up spray and obscuring visibility. Simeon had a top time of 2'24.796, compared to the pole position time of 2'08.101s from Marc Márquez, whose bike ran off the track and into a barrier when the Spaniard was thrown from his bike in a highside at the session’s end.The Catalan was unhurt but his Suter bike sustained considerable damage.

Kenan Sofuoglu (Technomag-CIP) posted fourth fastest time and Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX), who ran off the track into the grass after a big slide and near highside, posted fifth.

Yuki Takahashi (Moto2 Gresini Racing) posted sixth with a time of 2’25.785s, followed by Jules Cluzel (NGM Forward Racing), Championship leader Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) was seventh, followed by second place qualifier Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) and Raffaele De Rosa (SAG Team), who posted a time of 2’26.042s.
