Gadea tops Friday afternoon session

Gadea tops Friday afternoon session

Sergio Gadea rose to the top early in the rain slowed FP2, pursued by Sandro Cortese and Danny Webb.

Under darkening skies and stifling humidity, the 125cc field hit the circuit for the second free practice session of the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM. Almost immediately sparse raindrops began to fall and while not enough to thoroughly wet the track, it left the riders questioning tire changes and slowed lap times by 4 to 5 seconds. 25 minutes into the session slightly heavier rain began to fall and most riders entered the garages and did not return to the wet track.

Gadea (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing Team) posted the top lap time of the FP2 with a 2’02.176. German rider Cortese (Intact Racing Team Germany) followed over half a second behind the Spaniard, and an early lap set by Webb of 2’03.285 put the Brit third quickest of the session.

Adrián Martín of the Bankia Aspar team was fourth in the session in front of Czech rider Jakub Kornfeil (Ongetta-Centro Seta), Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport), Luis Salom (RW Racing GP), Louis Rossi (Matteoni Racing), Marcel Schrötter (Mahindra Racing).

Czech wildcard entry Miroslav Popov (Ellegi Racing) completed the top ten times with a 2’04.304. He was followed by Italian wildcard Massimo Parziani (Faenza Racing), who finished 12th fastest in the earlier dry session.

Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Team Andalucía Banca Cívica) returned to the track after an absence of two rounds due to injury to place 16th in the timings after an 18th posting in FP1.
