Vázquez on form at Indy

The Avant-AirAsia-Ajo rider snuck in a fast last lap to claim to top 125cc spot in the opening practice of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix ahead of Terol and Zarco.

Last year’s race winner and current points leader, Nicolas Terol (Bankia Aspar), was the consistent leader in the second half FP1 on Friday morning, until the final seconds when Efrén Vázquez pulled off a flying lap of 1’51.445 with his last turn on the newly paved circuit. The 24 year old Spaniard currently sits seventh in the Championship, and will be determined to make the most of the weekend following his DNF at Brno.

Terol's time of 1’51.510, set on his penultimate lap out of 17 laps, was 0.463s quicker than Championship challenger Johann Zarco (Avant-AirAsia-Ajo). Zarco was the final rider under the 1'52" mark, with the gap from the Frenchman to fourth fastest Sandro Cortese (Intact Racing Team Germany) just 0.110s.

British rider Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) set a time of 1’52.360 to put him fifth in the charts, followed by Héctor Faubel (Bankia Aspar), Alberto Moncayo (Team Andalucía Banca Cívica), and Jonas Folger (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport), who is back in action after missing the previous round at Brno due to illness, posting the eighth quickest lap of the session with a time of 1’52.889. Adrián Martín (Bankia Aspar) and Maverick Viñales (Blusens by Paris Hilton Racing) completed the top ten times.

While a few riders such as Danny Webb (Mahindra Racing) and Cortese had off track excursions in the grass, Harry Stafford (Ongetta-Centro Seta) was the only fall in the morning session, the rider was unhurt.
