Redding takes third Moto2 outing

The British Marc VDS Racing rider topped the field in the third practice session of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix, in front of Márquez and Championship leader Bradl.

Scott Redding was the only rider in the intermediate class to break into the 1’44s with his lap of 1’44.805 set on lap 17 of 18 amidst a flurry of changes on the leader board in the last four minutes.

Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol) responded to Redding’s chart topping time with a 1’45.145, while Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) started his push for the lead on lap 15, setting a time of 1’45.291. The German then set out to set a faster time, but ran off course and jumped off the curbing leading onto the back straight and crashed.

Randy Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) took fourth position with his best lap of 1’45.404, followed by Michele Pirro (Gresini Racing Moto2) two tenths behind the Swiss rider to rank fifth.

Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) held the top spot on the leader board for three quarters of the session, his time of 1’45.642 set on lap 6 being bumped down to sixth position in the final minutes. Andrea Iannone shot up to the second spot in the last 15 minutes, the Speed Master rider laying down a lap just 0.062s behind Smith.

Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) was eighth, followed by Finnish rider Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) and Mattia Pasini (Ioda Racing Project), completing the top ten riders.
