Pole man Stoner first in warm up

Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner was fastest in the warm up session on Sunday morning ahead of the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini.

With high and climbing temperatures, the Australian topped the MotoGP field with a best lap of 1'33.925, his sights set on a fourth successive win. Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo, who starts second to the Championship leader, again followed Stoner in the times with a 1'34.165.

Third place starter Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) was third in the session, with local rider Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) two tenths behind the Spaniard in fourth.

Completing the top five in the field was Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team), whose time of 1'34.691 was three tenths faster than his qualifying time which placed the American in the 15th spot on the starting grid.

Rizla Suzuki's Álvaro Bautista, who will start the race from his best qualifying position of the season - from eighth on the grid - was sixth in the sesssion, ahead of Héctor Barberá (Mapfre Aspar), who was the fastest Ducati in the qualifying field, starting from ninth. Second row starter Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) completed the top ten riders in the warm up.
