Simón undergoes further surgery on recovering leg

The Mapfre Aspar Moto2 rider had his right leg operated on in Madrid on Monday.

Julián Simón, the Mapfre Aspar Moto2 rider who suffered a tibia and fibula fracture in his right leg in a crash at the Catalunya GP in June, underwent further surgery on Monday following the Gran Premio de Aragón.

The Spaniard, who finished 17th in Sunday’s race at Aragón, was operated on by Doctor Ángel Villamor on Monday evening in order to re-fix the plates and screws which had become unsecured. During the operation Dr Villamor removed the plates and screws which had completed their function of fixing the fragments of damaged bone, and inserted a new titanium mini-plate in one of the fragments which had not fully repaired.

The operation lasted two-and-a-half hours and Simón will now rest the leg fully. A return date to action has not yet been set for the Spanish rider.
