Iannone sets tempo in Moto2 warm up

Andrea Iannone led the intermediate category warm up outing ahead of the Grand Prix of Japan with Lüthi and Smith posting the second and third fastet times.

Iannone (Speed Master) topped the 20 minute session with a time of 1’52.265, three tenths ahead of pole man Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2), who starts the afternoon race from the front row for the first time since he was second on the grid at Le Mans. Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) followed one tenth of a second behind the Swiss rider to rank third in the outing.

Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol), who will be aiming for his fourth successive win in this afternoon’s race, clocked the fourth quickest time, with Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) bringing up fifth, ahead of Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) who was the final rider within a second of the top time set by Iannone.

Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) posted seventh, with Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing), Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) and Pol Espargaró (HP Tuenti Speed Up) completing the top ten times.

Axel Pons (Pons HP 40) and Randy Krummenacher (GP Team Switzerland Kiefer Racing) both had falls during the morning warm up outing, while Sergeo Gadea (Desguaces La Torre G22) did not participate in the session and has been declared unfit for the race due to injuries sustained in a qualifying practice crash.
