Thursday fishing trip for Stoner, Edwards and Spies

Ahead of his home race at Phillip Island this weekend Championship leader Casey Stoner and Americans Colin Edwards and Ben Spies caught some trout for lunch…

Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda), Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Ben Spies (Yamaha Factory Racing) took part in the official Iveco Australian Grand Prix pre-event on Phillip Island on Thursday, as the trio enjoyed a spot of trout fishing ahead of the weekend’s action which starts on Friday.

The MotoGP riders visited the Rhyll Trout and Bush Tucker Farm where seasoned fishermen Stoner and Edwards settled straight into their rhythm. Spies took a little longer to find his feet but eventually caught a fish, and the three riders then sat down to eat their catches.

Edwards, who was the first to catch something, said: “I’m a country boy! I’ve put a few meals on the table by catching fish, so I’m having fun out here… I’m feeling good going into the weekend, nice and relaxed, and now I’m ready to get back on the bike. This is my favourite track in the world, no doubt.”

His compatriot Spies added: “It’s fun to hang out before the weekend starts. We’re getting ready for another great weekend on the Island and hoping the weather stays good.” The factory Yamaha man, who struggled physically with illness at Motegi, continued: “I feel a lot better, I’ve done nothing but relax the past week and fully recharged now so I’m ready to get back on track. It’s such a unique track with the elevation, being on the sea, the people, and the atmosphere.”
