De Angelis leads FP2, Bradl takes the day

Alex de Angelis led the second Moto2 practice outing at the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, ahead of Andrea Iannone and Stefan Bradl, though Bradl’s blistering morning lap remained fastest of the day.

JiR Moto2 Team’s Alex de Angelis was the star of the second practice at Phillip Island for the intermediate class, edging Speed Master’s Iannone by 0.102s to take the top spot with a lap of 1’34.466. Iannone was able to improve his time by six tenths to grab second, while Bradl ended the session in third.

While the majority of the field improved on their morning times, Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) was not among that group as the German rider was still shaken from his crash in the final seconds of the FP1 outing. His morning time of 1’34.039 however remained fastest of the day by over four tenths over De Angelis. Slotting into the fourth was Claudio Corti (Italtrans Racing) with a time of 1’34.600, ahead of the British duo of Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) who followed the Italian by 0.183s and Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) an additional tenth behind to rank sixth in the combined times.

Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing), who had ranked third in the morning practice finished the day in seventh with his best lap of 1’34.964, with Thomas Lüthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2) and Mattia Pasini (Ioda Racing Project) following the Finn by just 0.005 and 0.015, respectively.

Yuki Takahashi of the Gresini Racing team completed the top ten for the day, while new Championship leader Marc Márquez (Team CatalunyaCaixa Repsol), who crashed twice in the first session with the final incident a collision into the back of Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha-SAG), ranked 17th in the meet. Wilairot was not able to participate in the session as he was still being examined for injuries.
