Márquez tops Phillip Island warm up

CatalunyaCaixa Repsol's Márquez led the intermediate class warm up, ahead of Claudio Corti and Stefan Bradl.

The Moto2 class warm up commenced on a cold and drying track ahead of the Iveco Australian Grand Prix, with 1'34.854. The Spanish star will start the afternoon's race from the back of the grid following a penalty incurred for striking Ratthapark Wilairot (Thai Honda Singha-SAG) at the end of the Friday’s first free practice session. Márquez will attempt to move up through the order and cross the finish line with as many points as possible in today's race.

Claudio Corti (Italtrans Racing Team) ranked second in the outing, ahead of Championship rival Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing), who now trails Márquez by one point in the standings.The German rider will start from eighth on the grid.

Mika Kallio was fourth, ahead of Mattia Pasini to complete the top five. Pole man Alex de Angelis (JiRMoto2) was tenth in the warm up, while Frenchman Mike di Meglio (Tech 3 Racing), who starts from second place, ranked thirteenth. The final front row starter, Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing Moto2), was 17th in the session.

Ratthapark Wilairot, the rider injured in the incident with Márquez , is flying back today to his country to assess his physical condition. The Thai rider has been diagnosed with an injury to the ligaments to his left knee and a sprained left ankle.
